THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a prolonged period of silence, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has finally addressed the public, though he notably avoided several explosive issues, including the controversial RSS-ADGP meetings. The CM firmly rejected the opposition's accusations of secret dealings with the Prime Minister, instead criticizing the Congress for what he called a “gang mentality.”
The Chief Minister, the government, and the party have found themselves on the defensive following reports that ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, accompanied by the Chief Minister and a close relative, met with RSS leader Ram Madhav. Questions are mounting as to why Ajith Kumar, who holds responsibility for law and order in the state, had meetings with RSS General Secretary Dattatraya in Thrissur and former spokesperson Ram Madhav in Kovalam. Despite receiving intelligence reports, the Chief Minister has yet to seek an explanation from the ADGP, sparking a political uproar in Kerala.
The controversy comes at a time when the CPM and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) are already dealing with tension surrounding an investigation into the suspension of Ajith Kumar. The allegations, made by PV Anwar MLA, have further stoked unrest within the party.
Crucial LDF meeting ahead
Though the CM avoided discussing the RSS-ADGP meeting during yesterday's party general meeting, he may be forced to provide an explanation during today’s LDF leadership meeting. The CPI, a crucial ally within the LDF, is reportedly frustrated by allegations of a secret deal with RSS leaders to secure the BJP candidate’s win.
While Vijayan publicly reiterated that the CPM would never align with the RSS, questions remain about what action, if any, the government has taken against ADGP Ajith Kumar. With the issue affecting the credibility of both the CPM and the Left government—the only one of its kind in the country—an answer may be demanded in today’s meeting.
