ALAPPUZHA: Subhadra, who was murdered, was everything for Sharmila. As she did not have any relatives, Subhadra stood as her own mother and conducted her marriage. The local residents said that Subhadra loved Sharmila more than her own children. None of the relatives of Sharmila of Udupi, attended her marriage with Mathews. Sharmila told everyone that Subhadra was her maternal aunt. The locals are asking whether it is possible to mercilessly kill a woman who loved them like a mother, for gold and money.
It was Mathews, a construction worker, second marriage with Sharmila. They did not have any contacts with their neighbors. Subhadra, who was staying alone in Kadavanthra, went with Sharmila and Mathews without the knowledge of her own children. Sharmila came to take Subhadra along with her. The police indicate that the murder was pre-planned.
Subhadra used to regularly visit various places of worship. Subhadra met Sharmila in one of her visits. After getting acquainted, it became customary to stay at the couple's house while visiting the places of worship. Sharmila had stayed in the hostel run by Subhadra in Kadavanthra before her marriage.
Subhadra went missing on August 4. Her children filed a complaint with the Kadavanthra police on August 6. The police got the CCTV visuals of Sharmila and Subhadra going. Subhadra's mobile phone tower location was last shown at Korthussery, Kalavoor in Alappuzha. After getting the visuals of Subhadra leaving with Sharmila from Kalavoor, the police reached their house on August 13, but the couple was not there. The two had been staying there for about a year and a half.
A construction worker testified that they made him dig a hole at the back of their house. The body was taken out yesterday afternoon. After Subhadra’s sons Rajeev and Radhakrishnan reached and identified the body, the body was shifted to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. A DNA test will also be done.
