WASHINGTON: Hamza bin Laden, the son of Osama bin Laden, the former head of al-Qaeda, is reported to be alive. Citing intelligence sources, some foreign media reported that he was hiding in a secret facility in Afghanistan and had taken control of al-Qaeda.
It is also reported that he plans to attack Western countries as revenge for his father's death. In 2019, it was reported that Hamza was killed in a US attack in southeastern Afghanistan. The then US President Donald Trump confirmed this. However, it could not be confirmed whether it was Hamza himself who was killed. The report also says that the Taliban leaders know about Hamza in Afghanistan.
35-year-old Hamza's brother Abdullah is also an active member of Al-Qaeda. Hamza is also said to have the protection of the Taliban. There are indications of Al Qaeda presence in Helmand, Ghazni, Laghman, Parwan, Zabul and Nangarhar areas. Intelligence report that Al Qaeda is preparing for a strong comeback after the Iraq war.
