Accused Ajmal and woman doctor found drunk in Kollam accident leading to woman's death

KOLLAM: The police said Ajmal, who was driving the vehicle the led to the death of a woman pillion riding at Mynagappally, was found drunk at the time of the incident. A young female doctor who was with him was also under the influence of alcohol. After consuming liquor at a friend's house, Ajmal and doctor Sreekutty were travelling in the car. The locals said that they saw then drinking before the accident.

Accused Ajmal said that he tried to escape as soon as the accident happened fearing of being attacked by the locals. The accident happened at 5.45 pm last evening. Kunjumol (45) of Mynagappally, who was pillion riding died following the accident. Fauzia, who was driving the scooter, sustained injuries. Ajmal, who escaped from the spot after running over the car on Kunjumol was caught from Sasthamcotta.

As soon as the accident happened, the police took the car, Ajmal and the doctor into custody. When Ajmal hit the car behind the scooter, the locals asked him to stop the vehicle. However, despite this, he tried to escape from the place after hitting Kunjumol. She was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital but died around 9.45 pm.
