VIJAYAWADA: The Chandrababu Naidu government of Andhra Pradesh suspended three IPS officers following an actress's complaint of unlawful arrest. The suspended officers are P Seetharama Anjaneyulu, a former intelligence chief with DGP rank, IG Kanti Rana Tata, and SP Vishal Gunni.
The action was taken on a complaint filed by Ahmedabad-based actress and model Kadambari Jethwani. The 28-year-old Kadambari had played a lead role in the movie 'I Love Me', directed by B Unnikrishnan and starring Asif Ali. In her complaint, Kadambari alleged that she and her family were arrested and detained based on a false complaint filed by a film producer, who is a leader of the YSR Congress party. The incident occurred in February of this year, when Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress party was in power.
The producer had earlier lodged a complaint that the actress had forged documents to acquire land and cheated him of five lakh rupees. However, the actress alleged that the police action was a retaliatory measure for a complaint she had filed against him in Mumbai and that the police officers had threatened her with severe consequences if she didn't withdraw the complaint.
The then Intelligence Chief, PSR Anjaneyulu, had ordered IG Kanti Rana Tata and SP Vishal Gunni to arrest the actress. The case was registered on February 2, and the arrest was made when she was in Mumbai.
Kadambari Jethwani filed a complaint at the Ibrahimpatnam District Police Station on Friday, accusing the police of falsely implicating her in a case. Based on this, the police registered a case against the YSR Congress leader and others.
