Five accidents in Thiruvananthapuram on Thiruvonam day; seven deaths

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seven people were killed in five vehicle accidents in the capital on Thiruvonam day. In one such incident, three young men lost their lives in a bike collision in Varkala. In another incident, a pedestrian was fatally hit by a bike while attempting to cross the road at Sasthavattom in Mangalapuram. Furthermore, two pedestrians, including a woman, succumbed to their injuries in two separate accidents that occurred near Infosys on the bypass at Kulathoor. In yet another tragic incident, an autorickshaw driver lost his life after a car collided with his vehicle at Vazhuthoor in Neyyattinkara.

The three young men who tragically lost their lives in the Varkala accident were identified as Edava Venkulam native Adithyan (18), Mangatu native Ananddas (19), and Varkala Mundayil native Jishnu Moncy (19). The accident occurred when two bikes travelling in opposite directions collided head-on at high speed.

A person died after being hit by a speeding bike while crossing the road at Sasthavattom in Mangalapuram. The deceased was Sasthavattom native Siju (43). The accident occurred at around 5 pm on Sunday. Although Siju was immediately rushed to the Medical College Hospital, he soon succumbed to his injuries. The bike rider, Roshan Raj, a native of Perunguzhi, also suffered severe injuries.

Baby Anthony (45), a chef at a restaurant near Infosys, died after being hit by a car while crossing the road near Infosys on the bypass at Kulathoor. The accident occurred at around 2 am yesterday. Baby was on her way to her accommodation after finishing work at the restaurant when the car travelling on the service road hit her. Although she was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, her life could not be saved.

A 27-year-old youth died after his motorbike rammed into a tree on the divider in front of Infosys. Two migrant workers, who were travelling with him on the bike, also sustained injuries.

An autorickshaw driver died after his vehicle collided with a car at Vazhuthoor, Neyyattinkara. The deceased is Shyne (41), a native of Kalathuvila. The accident occurred when a car travelling from Perumpazhuthoor collided with the autorickshaw, which was heading from Neyyattinkara to Thozhukkal. Shyne succumbed to his injuries at the accident spot.
