49 fever cases reported; schools closed; Survey in Thiruvali amid Nipah scare

MALAPPURAM: Strict restrictions continue in Malappuram district after a 24-year-old man, diagnosed with Nipah, died in Thiruvali on Sunday. The restrictions are tight, especially in Mampad and Thiruvali in Malappuram district. The health department will survey Thiruvali to find more people with Nipah symptoms.

In the survey conducted on Monday, 49 fever cases were reported in Thiruvali. One among them is a person included in the victim's contact list. The health department released the route map of the dead student the other day. The number of people on the contact list is likely to increase as more information becomes available.

Strict restrictions continue in the Malappuram district, especially in the containment zone wards of Thiruvali and Mampad panchayats.

The youngster, a student in Bengaluru, died at 8:30 am on September 9 while undergoing treatment at Perinthalmanna MES Medical College. Nipah virus was suspected in the death investigation conducted by the medical officer following symptoms of encephalitis. Immediately the sample was sent to the Kozhikode Medical College through the District Medical Officer. The test result that came out on Saturday evening was positive.

Restrictions:

  • Public should not congregate.
  • Business establishments should function only from 10 am to 7 pm.
  • Cinema theatres, schools and colleges should remain closed.
  • Madrasas, Anganwadi and tuition centres have been closed.
  • Mask made mandatory.
