NEW DELHI: The union cabinet has approved Chandrayaan 4 and mission to Venus. The purpose of the mission is to deliver samples from the moon to the earth. The Centre also approved expansion of the Gaganyaan project, development of the Indian Space Station, launch vehicle development, etc.
‘ISRO Chairman R Somnath had earlier stated that the launch of Chandrayaan 4' mission will be in two phases. The parts of 'Chandrayaan 4' will be delivered to space in two stages and then assembled there and continue its journey to the moon.
Chandrayaan 4's weight is more than what ISRO's most powerful rocket can carry, so the launch is being carried out in two stages. Although several spacecraft have been connected in the past, this is the first time that parts of a spacecraft have been assembled in space.
Docking technology is being developed to integrate spacecraft parts in space. The mission, named Spadex, will be completed by the end of this year.
