KOLLAM: The accused in the Mynagappally accident case were brought for evidence collection but the procedures had to be stopped midway after heavy backlash from the public. Ajmal and Sreekutty were brought to Anoorkavu junction by 3.30 pm on Friday but were asked not to come out of the vehicle in fear of attack from the public.

Daughters and relatives of the killed Kunjumol protested by shouting. With this, the police completed the evidence collection inside the vehicle and went to Karunagappally side.

Other evidence collection spots included the house they ran into in Karunagappally, the restaurant in Karunagappally where they ate in the morning of the incident, the friend's house where they ate in the afternoon, and the ground in Mynagappally where the two got drunk.

Hundreds of women protestors circled the police vehicle when the two were brought for evidence collection. The police worked hard to ward off protestors. As soon as the vehicle stopped, Kunjumol's children Sufia and Alfia shouted and asked the accused to kill them too. The rage among protestors soared when the accused Ajmal smirked at them from the police jeep.

Police said that the accused in the Mynagappally hit-and-run case are drug addicts. The police had found that the two had taken a room in a hotel the day before the accident and had used MDMA, a narcotic drug. According to the police, the two had booked rooms thrice in the hotel in September alone.

According to the police, the duo had booked rooms in the hotel on September 14 and on September 1 and 9. The accused used deadly drugs after taking a room in the hotel and staying there for hours. Liquor bottles and equipment used to administer chemical intoxication were also recovered from the hotel room. The police are planning to send these for chemical testing.

Meanwhile, the accused’s lawyer argued that the duo fled the accident spot in fear of attack from the public and had nothing to do with drugs.
