THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department will take over the printing and distribution of RC books and driving licenses. This comes at a time when printing has been stopped again as the contracting agency's dues have increased. The agency has to be paid about Rs 10 crores.
The RC book and driving license will be printed and delivered to the homes through KSRTC's parcel distribution system. A tender will be called soon to purchase the PVC card for printing. Downloading the documents and making them digital will also be considered.
After the printing of RC books and licenses stopped in November last year, the crisis was resolved by paying nine crore dues. The money was given on the assurance that all pending applications would be disposed of. However, the agency did not keep its promise, says minister KB Ganesh Kumar. The remaining amount will be released only after the pending applications are disposed of.
4.5 lakh licenses to be issued
"The department has a few printing machines. More machines will be purchased."
