THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has frozen the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University governing body's decision to reinstate the College Dean and the Assistant Warden, who were under suspension in connection with the death of JS Siddharth, a student of the Pookode Veterinary College.
The report submitted by Retd Justice A Hariprasad, appointed by the Governor to investigate Siddharthan's death, had held the Dean and Assistant Warden responsible for the incident. It also recommended departmental action against them. However, the University governing body, after considering the report, decided to reinstate the two officials.
Following this, Siddharthan's parents and the Save University Campaign Committee submitted a petition to the Governor, urging the revocation of the university's decision. They also demanded the Governor to give direction to take strict action against the culprits. Vice Chancellor Dr KS Anil, who refused to implement the majority decision of the governing body to reinstate the College Dean and Assistant Warden, had written to the Raj Bhavan secretary for the above instructions in this regard. Subsequently, the Governor intervened, freezing the council's decision.
