NEW DELHI: Five members of a family were found dead in their rented house in Rangpuri, Delhi, early yesterday morning. The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Hiralal and his four daughters – Neetu (18), Nishi (15), Neeru (10) and Nidhi (8). Initial investigations suggest that the deaths were the result of a mass suicide.
Hiralal, a carpenter by profession, had been living with his daughters after the death of his wife a year ago. All four children were born with disabilities. Neetu, the eldest, was visually impaired, while Nishi had difficulty walking. The health conditions of the two younger daughters, Neeru and Nidhi, are currently under investigation.
CCTV footage obtained by the police shows Hiralal returning home on the 24th of this month. Since then, there has been no record of anyone leaving or entering the house. Upon receiving a distress call, the police arrived at the residence and found the main door locked from the inside. Fire force officials were called in to break open the door.
The bodies of the four daughters were found in the bedroom, while Hiralal's body was discovered in another room. All five were reportedly foaming at the mouth and police recovered bottles containing poison, along with glasses of juice and water, near the bodies.
