Actress Vidya Balan is making her debut in a Tamil film ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ which has Ajith in the main role. The film directed by H Vinod is a remake of the Hindi film ‘Pink’. The film has Shraddha Sreenath, Abhirami Venkitachalam, Andrea Thyrag and many others. Late actress Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor has produced the film. Vidya is happy to have acted in a Tamil movie after a long wait.

Though the actress is born and brought up in Mumbai, her roots are in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Her film entry is after a lot of hard work. Twelve films of her have not been released. She thus became a symbol of misfortune. Some said that if a film is made with Vidya as the heroine, it will not release. But she later became the leading female heroine of Bollywood. Vidya made her Bollywood debut through ‘Parineeta’ with Saif Ali Khan and got the national award for ‘Dirty Picture’. She has acted in nearly forty films. Now in a year she acts only in a few films.

When asked whether she was late in acting in Tamil films, she said, “From the very beginning I wanted to act in Tamil films. However, I doubted whether Tamil film fans will accept my Palakkad Tamil. I don’t think of doing a lot of films now. If I get good characters, I’ll definitely do it.”

She said, “I started my film career in Malayalam. However, that film did not go ahead. That was the only film I did in south India. I did a cameo in Urumi.”

‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ is a socially important film. Moreover, working with Ajith was a beautiful experience. What a humble person he is,” she said in an interview to a channel.

She started her film career in Chakram, directed by Kamal and with Mohanlal in the lead role. She was doing her post graduate then. Later Kamal shelved that film.

Kamal later announced his film Aami, a biographical film based on the life of famous author Kamala Das, with Vidya Balan in the lead role. However, she withdrew from the film following some differences of opinion. Manju Warrier was later signed for the film.
