Final phase of polling underway in Jammu and Kashmir; tight security is tight in region

SRINAGAR: The final phase of voting is underway in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The third phase of voting is taking place in 40 constituencies across seven districts. Of these, 24 are in the Jammu division and 16 are in the Kashmir division. A total of 415 candidates are in the fray. Some of the prominent candidates include former Deputy Chief Ministers Tara Chand and Muzaffar Baig.

The first two phases of voting were peaceful. Tight security has been arranged in the region considering the final phase of voting. Polling, which began at 7 am, will conclude at 6 pm. 5,060 polling stations have been set up.

The first phase of voting was held on September 18 and the second phase on September 25. According to the Election Commission, the first and second phases recorded 61% and 57.31% polling respectively. The exit poll results will be out on October 5. The election results will be announced on the 8th.
