KOZHIKODE: The fake doctor, who was the RMO of Kadalundi Kottakadavu TMH Hospital, has been arrested in connection with the death of Pachattu Vinod Kumar (60), who was undergoing treatment for chest pain, on September 23. The arrested fake doctor is Abu Abraham Luke, a native of Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta, who did not pass MBBS. It was he who treated Vinod Kumar.

Abraham Luke has been charged with cheating, impersonation and sections under the Indian Medical Council Act. The statement of the hospital authorities was also recorded. The hospital authorities said that there was a lapse in appointing a person who did not pass MBBS as a doctor without conducting a proper investigation.

Vinod Kumar's son Ashwin P Vinod, is a PG doctor, and his wife Malavika, is also a doctor. An investigation by Ashwin and Malavika, who suspected Vinod Kumar's death, is what revealed that Abraham Luke had not cleared his MBBS final examination.

Joined the job under a different name

Abraham Luke came to TMH Hospital to fill the vacancy of RMO saying that he is a doctor with years of experience in several hospitals including in Malappuram district. When he asked for the registration number before joining the job, he gave the number in the name of Abu P Xavier. When asked by the authorities, he replied that he had two names. A good response was received when inquired at the places where he said he used to work earlier. So no one was in doubt.

Abraham Luke used to come to the hospital twice a week. He had many patients also. Manoj Palakkal, manager of the hospital, said, "Only after the death of the patient we came to know that Abraham Luke had come through someone else's reference. He had also said that he was preparing for the NEET PG exam after completing his MBBS. He had taken leave for this."
