KOCHI: Kadavanthra police have arrested a man for impersonating a dermatologist and performing unauthorized surgeries. The accused, Saju Sanjeev (27), a resident of Saju Bhavan in the Chemmaruthi area of Chavarkode, Varkala, was arrested after a complaint was filed by a woman who underwent surgery at his establishment.

Sanjeev, originally from Thiruvananthapuram, performed a keyhole surgery on the woman on May 24, 2023, at Mediglow in Kadavanthra, claiming it would help her reduce obesity. When the procedure failed to yield the expected results, he conducted an open surgery on June 11, 2023. The woman subsequently developed a severe infection at the surgical site and experienced intense pain. Concerned for her life, she approached the police.

Investigations revealed that Sanjeev had been operating the clinic using the registration details of a legitimate doctor from Kozhikode. His establishment had been in operation since early 2023, with three staff members, one of whom is currently abroad. Authorities have confirmed that this individual will also be questioned. A previous case is already pending against Sanjeev at Ernakulam North Police Station, related to unauthorized medical treatment.

The arrest was made by a team led by Kadavanthra SHO P.M. Ratheesh, along with SI B. Dinesh, ASI Dileep and SCPOs Srinath and Praveen.
