KOLLAM: The bail plea of Ajmal, the first accused in the Mynagappally car accident case, has been rejected. The principal sessions court rejected the bail plea without even hearing the argument. The court said causing an accident by driving under the influence of alcohol is a deliberate offence.

Ajmal has been charged with culpable homicide. The defendant approached the sessions court after the Sasthamcotta Magistrate Court rejected the bail plea. The second accused in the case Dr Sreekutty was recently granted bail by Kollam Principal Sections Court. Sreekutty has been charged with incitement in the case. The Sasthamcotta Magistrate Court had rejected Sreekutty's bail plea earlier.

The accident happened at Mynagapally in Kollam on September 15th. Mynagappally native Kunjumol and her cousin Fauzia were crossing the road on a scooter when Ajmal's car hit them. Seeing the locals running towards them, Ajmal and Sreekutty fled the spot after running the car on the body of Kunjumol. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital but died around 9.45 pm.

Ajmal stopped the car and ran away when the locals followed them. Sreekutty who ran to a nearby house was taken into custody by the police. Ajmal was also arrested later. It was found that both were under the influence of alcohol. The second accused Sreekutty was in the back seat of the car.
