KOZHIKODE: The death toll rose to two in the Kozhikode Pullurampara accident on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Thyesyamma (75) from Anakkampoyil and Kamala (65) from Kandappanchal. Two seriously injured people have been shifted to the Medical College Hospital.
25 people were injured in the accident. Seven are undergoing treatment at Omassery Shanti Hospital and fifteen at Thiruvambady Lisa Hospital. Meanwhile, Transport Minister KSRTC has asked CMD to immediately investigate the accident and submit a report.
The accident took place at 2 pm near Kaliyampuzha after the bus hit a culvert, went out of control and fell into the river. The total passenger count remains unknown but it is rumoured that the bus was fully occupied during its travel.
Rescue operations were carried out under the leadership of the fire force. The injured have been shifted to the hospital. According to Thiruvambady panchayat president Bindhu, four people who suffered injuries in the accident are in critical condition.
Accusations are also surfacing about the dilapidated condition of the bridge, left unnoticed by the officials, despite many pleadings from locals.
