THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Onam Bumper lottery draw will take place today. The lucky winner will be known in a few hours. Meanwhile, more than 72 lakh tickets have been sold, out of the 80 lakh printed.
Lottery shops are witnessing a huge rush as people throng to try their luck. Last year, Tamil Nadu natives Pandiaraj, Natarajan, Kuppuswamy, and Rangaswamy won the Thiruvonam Bumper. Following this, people from other states are flocking to Kerala to purchase lottery tickets. Some have even travelled from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram to buy tickets.
A young man from Mumbai travelled 1682 kilometres in 31 hours to reach Bhagawathy Agency in Kerala. He told a media outlet that he came solely to purchase the Thiruvonam Bumper lottery ticket and has been buying lottery tickets for the past three years.
The lucky draw will take place today at 2 pm at Gorky Bhavan in the presence of Finance Minister KN Balagopal. The first draw will be conducted by the Finance Minister himself, and the first draw for the second prize will be conducted by VK Prasanth MLA. The prize structure includes a whopping Rs 25 crore first prize, followed by Rs 1 crore each for 20 second-prize winners, and further prizes of Rs 50 lakh, Rs 5 lakh, and Rs 2 lakh.
