THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former DGP R Sreelekha said that she decided to join the BJP as a result of the discussion she had just three weeks ago. Speaking to the media, Sreelekha said that she joined the party to serve the people. BJP state president K Surendran, along with other leaders, visited Sreelekha's residence in Eswaramangalam, Thiruvananthapuram and presented her with party membership.
"Today, I joined the BJP as a result of the discussion I had just three weeks ago. I am a police officer who served the people impartially for 33 years without working for any political party. I wish to continue serving the people. That's why I made this decision now. I joined the BJP because I have faith in its ideals. My goal is public service. At present, I cannot say whether I will contest in elections," Sreelekha said.
Sreelekha, the first woman IPS officer from the Kerala cadre, retired three years ago as the Chief of the Fire Force. Sreelekha had a strained relationship with the state government towards the end of her service. As a result, she did not even accept the farewell ceremony at the time of retirement. Her outspoken views on her personal vlog often stirred major controversies.
