VALLIKUNNAM: A Kerala Kaumudi agent, who came to pick up a newspaper bundle, was robbed and was slapped across the face and nose bitten off when he resisted. Sahadevan (70), a native of Vallikunnam in Alappuzha, was attacked at Kinarumukku around 3.30 am.
Sahadevan had come to Kinarumukku to pick up a bundle of newspapers for distribution. He placed his scooter on the roadside and was crossing the road when a man tried to snatch Rs 1,500 from Sahadevan's pocket. After keeping Sahadevan in a neck lock, the attacker dragged him to a nearby waiting shed. Sahadevan tried to escape but could not.
As the resistance grew stronger, the attacker slapped Sahadevan across his face and bit off the left side of his nose. The man then escaped by snatching the money from Sahadevan's pocket.
Sahadevan was rushed to a private hospital in Choonad by his grandson Abhiram, another agent Shahul Hameed and newspaper distributors. Sahadevan, who was later shifted to a private hospital in Thiruvalla after first aid, will undergo surgery. A team led by Vallikunnam CI Binukumar reached the spot and examined the CCTV footage of Kinarumukku.
