THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A five-month-old baby died after a rambutan became lodged in his throat in Kallambalam. The incident occurred yesterday evening at the family home in Mangla, Thottaikkad, Karavaram.

The infant, Aadhav, son of Anesh Sudhakaran, was given peeled rambutan by his older cousins, who had taken the fruit from offerings prepared for a puja. Hearing the baby's cries, his mother rushed to him and found he was struggling to breathe with the fruit stuck in his throat.

The family quickly transported Aadhav to a nearby private hospital, where doctors removed the obstruction. Despite efforts to provide artificial respiration and transfer him to the ICU at Thiruvananthapuram SAT Hospital, the baby sadly passed away early this morning.

The body is currently at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital Mortuary. Kallambalam police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation. The body will be released to the family after the inquest and post-mortem procedures are completed.
