THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an alarming case, 22 people were rushed to hospital with food poisoning in Thiruvananthapuram’s tourist hotspot Varkala. All the people under treatment had consumed the Yemeni delicacy Kuzhimandi and Shawarma from two hotels near Varakala temple.

Following the incident, Hotels ‘New Spicy’ and ‘Elephant eatery’ were sealed by the health department. It comes as no surprise that the health department had previously shut down the two hotels citing unhygienic working conditions. The two hotels come under the same management. The people who had the dish from the hotel suffered stomach aches during their late sleep hours. This soon morphed into a headache, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.

With their health worsening, all of them approached hospital for respite. The health conditions of all the 22 are currently satisfactory.
