KANNUR: Kannur ADM Naveen Babu was found hanging in his quarters in Pallikkunnu today morning. Kannur District Panchayat President PP Divya had raised corruption allegations against Naveen Babu yesterday. The preliminary conclusion is that Naveen Babu committed suicide, hurt by the allegation.
Naveen Babu, who got transferred as Pathanamthitta ADM, was given a farewell yesterday under the leadership of the Kannur District Collector. As the ceremony was going on, PP Divya walked into the hall uninvited and levelled a corruption allegation against Naveen Babu. Divya alleged that ADM had committed irregularities in issuing NOC to a petrol pump. She said she has all the details in this regard and will reveal them when necessary.
"I had several opportunities to call and speak with the previous ADM. However, after Naveen Babu took over, I did not get many such opportunities to speak with him. I did call him once regarding the NOC for a petrol pump in Chengalayi. I requested him to visit the site and inspect it. He later informed me that he had visited the site and inspected it," she said.
"However, that entrepreneur later visited my office room several times stating that no decisions had been made in the matter. I told him that a decision would be made soon. I later came to know that the ADM had expressed difficulties in granting NOC due to the curves and bends in the area. This happened a few months ago. Now that he's leaving, I learnt that the entrepreneur has ultimately obtained the NOC," Divya said.
"It's a good thing. I know how the entrepreneur obtained the NOC. I am attending this program to thank Naveen Babu for issuing the NOC. One must always uphold integrity in life. You must not repeat the actions you took in Kannur in your next posting. Help people in a better way. Anything can happen in a minute in government service. We must all be mindful of that moment and be prepared. I am leaving before the felicitation ceremony. There is a specific reason for this. You will all come to know this reason within two days," Divya said.
