KOZHIKODE: Anitha, the mother of Shibin, has expressed relief and satisfaction over the High Court's verdict in the Thuneri Shibin murder case. Anitha, who said that her son had finally received justice, demanded that the first accused should also be brought before the law. CPM district secretary P Mohanan said that the High Court's verdict brings solace to both the family and the locality.
"Shibin was murdered at a time when there was no conflict in the region. Shibin was killed by League activists who had a background of communal terrorism. The culprits carried out the murder after a proper conspiracy. However, the trial court did not consider the case on merits. The lower court did not take the case seriously," Mohanan said.
Earlier today, the High Court awarded life sentences to six Muslim League workers convicted in the murder of DYFI activist Shibin in Thuneri, Nadapuram. The convicted individuals are Muneer, Siddique, Muhammad Anees, Shuhaib, Jasim and Samad Abdul Samad.
The court ordered each of the six convicted individuals to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. This money should be handed over to Shibin's father as compensation. The prosecution, which pointed out that the accused had committed a heinous act, demanded that they should be given maximum punishment.
Six accused, who were abroad, had returned to Kerala the other day. The Nadapuram police registered their arrest and produced them before the high court. The defence counsel informed that the first accused is continuing abroad as he did not get his passport back and that he is ready to return. The special prosecutor informed the court that there are no legal hurdles in awarding the punishment to the other accused in the absence of the first accused.
