DHAKA: A new coach is coming to coach Bangladesh who came to India with the confidence of winning a Test series in Pakistan for the first time in its history but was battered. The Bangla Tigers lost the Test series against India 2-0 and the T20I series 3-0. Former West Indies cricketer Phil Simmons is Bangladesh's new head coach. The tenure of the new coach is till next year's ICC Championship in Pakistan. Phil Simmons will take charge on October 21 from the World Test Championship in Mirpur against South Africa.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Farooq Ahmed said Simmons has agreed to coach Bangladesh till the ICC Championship to be held in Pakistan next year. Sri Lanka's Chandika Hathurusinghe was Bangladesh's head coach. He took over as Bangladesh coach in January 2023. Hathurusinghe had earlier served as Bangladesh's head coach from 2014 to 2017. Simmons has coached the West Indies and later for Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan. He is 61-years old. Bangladesh are currently placed seventh in the World Test Championship with 34.38 per cent.
