Death of Naveen Babu: Divya likely to be questioned today, may move high court for anticipatory bail

KANNUR: Former district panchayat president P P Divya may move for anticipatory bail in the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu. She may file an anticipatory bail plea in the high court today. The move is following the case registered under the non-bailable section.

A case was filed against Divya on charges of abetment of suicide on the complaint of Naveen’s brother. A section punishable with up to ten years has been imposed. Naveen's family had said the other day that they stand by the complaint against Divya and T V Prasanthan, who applied for the pump. The police reached Pathanamthitta yesterday and collected their statements.

The police are likely to question Divya today. The statement of Prasanthan will also be recorded. The vigilance will start an investigation today regarding the bribe given for the petrol pump. The vigilance probe is on two complaints, including that of the Muslim League leader.

The CPM had last night removed Divya from the post of district panchayat president. She then tendered her resignation. Advocate K K Ratna Kumari will replace her. Divya was removed from the post soon after the CPM district secretariat meet assessed that she could have avoided her remarks at the sendoff function of the ADM.
