THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The world's first self-powered indoor air quality monitor was inaugurated at the domestic terminal of Thiruvananthapuram Airport by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh.
This off-grid self-powered indoor air quality monitor powered by indigenous indoor solar cells has been developed by CSIR-NIIST, a central government research institute. The monitor works by generating energy from the light inside the terminal without using electricity or batteries.
Named Pavanachitra, the monitor is also beautifully integrated with cutting-edge science and technology. The terminal can track temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and air quality index inside the terminal. This installation is a global example of how climate change can be tackled through sustainable means.
Adani Group had earlier stated that it will invest Rs 1,300 crore to develop Thiruvananthapuram International Airport by 2027. The aim is to increase the facilities at the airport. The design of the new terminus is modeled after the design of the temple complexes and reflects the same architecture. As the airport expands, it can accommodate more passengers. Construction work is expected to be completed by 2027.
