VENJARAMOODU: Widespread theft and cases of robbery have been reported in Velavoor in Thiruvananthapuram. Three houses were robbed last day and there were also attempts to barge into two houses on the premises.

The theft took place at Sudhakaran Nair's house, police officer Biju Kumar's house and a neighbouring house owned by Kishore in Velavoor. It is reported that Rs 25000 was lost from Sudhakaran Nair's house. Sudhakaran Nair was away from home for a week, which the culprits carefully monitored.

Gold and money were found missing from Biju Nair’s house. The thieves entered the houses by breaking the windows and doors. All the thefts come within three hundred meters of the house where Venjaramoodu Circle Inspector lives on rent.

In the recent past, locals remember glancing at unfamiliar faces in tea shops across the town. Despite informing the police about the doubts, no effective patrolling happened in the area which the locals now blame for the rise in theft cases. It is reported that drug use, including cannabis, is common in the area during night hours.

A few months ago, there was a robbery attempt in Velavoor Vaidyankavu. Locals also allege that despite many complaints, there was no proper intervention from the police.
