KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has dismissed the petition filed by Asha Lawrence, the daughter of later senior CPM leader MM Lawrence, opposing the donation of her father's body for medical studies. The court dismissed Asha's petition, noting that MM Lawrence had informed two individuals about his wish to donate his body for medical studies and that there was no reason to doubt its authenticity.

In her petition, Asha had requested the court to allow her to bury the mortal remains of her father according to religious customs. The court had earlier ordered the body to be preserved until the petition was disposed of. Lawrence's son had informed the court that he was willing to hand over the mortal remains of his father for medical studies.

The Court had earlier directed the Medical College Principal to decide on the matter. After hearing the arguments from Asha and others, the Medical College Principal decided to take over the body. Following this, Asha approached the High Court against this. However, the High Court has now dismissed this petition.

The mortal remains of Lawrence, who died on September 21, are currently kept at the mortuary of the Kalamassery Medical College. Lawrence passed away due to old age-related ailments.
