NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that Priyanka Gandhi is contesting in the by-election in Wayanad to fool the people of the constituency once again. The BJP leader's statement comes in the backdrop of Priyanka Gandhi submitting her nomination papers to contest from Wayanad.

"Rahul Gandhi is a person who deceived the people of Wayanad by vacating the post of Wayanad MP to go to Raebareli. I don't think that the common people of Wayanad will be fooled again when another member of his family contests here. Wayanad needs a leader who understands the heart of the people. NDA candidate Navya Haridas can fulfil that need," Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.

"NDA has fielded a hardworking candidate. However, has Priyanka done anything in her political career so far? How will Priyanka Gandhi, who has come to Wayanad targeting only the vote bank, work among the people?" he asked.

"People of Wayanad saw what Rahul did during his 5-year term as Wayanad MP. What has Congress done for the people of Wayanad? If the people need to express their needs to the MP, they will require the help of a translator. Priyanka will never be able to understand the problems in Wayanad as she is not a person who was born and brought up in Kerala," he said.

"Navya is a woman born and raised in Kerala, serving the people. She will easily understand the problems in Wayanad just like any ordinary person and find solutions," Rajeev Chandrasekhar added.
