THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Just hours after the Governor appointed Dr Mohanan Kunnummal as the vice chancellor of Kerala University of Health Science, Minister R. Bindu forwarded her panel to the Raj Bhavan.

On Thursday at noon, before leaving for Delhi, the Governor signed the transfer file. The Raj Bhavan issued an order at 4 p.m. Without wasting any time, the minister sent her panel list to the Raj Bhavan. Professors Dr. Jayachandran (MG University), Dr. P.P. Pradyumnan (Calicut), and Dr K Sreejith (Kannur) are on the panel.

The governor earlier rejected the panel given by the minister for vice chancellor appointments in Calicut and CUSAT universities. In Kerala University, the minister wants someone from the government's panel to lead until a new VC is appointed. Minister R. Bindu informed in a press release that the chancellor(Governor) is taking an extremely opportunistic stance regarding appointing the vice-chancellor.

“The chancellor, who had earlier implicated the minister of higher education in the re-appointment of VCs, has now re-appointed a VC, based on favouritism. This is unfortunate. Even the power of the Legislature for state universities under Article 246(3) of the Constitution is being questioned. The appointments made by the chancellor at his discretion are dragging down the efforts made in the higher education sector and after all is a violation of ethics.” Said Minister Bindu.
