KASARAGOD: Kasaragod police arrested 27-year-old Sachitha Rai from Sheni Balthakallu, a former DYFI leader and teacher at Badur ALP School, in connection with a massive job scam. Sachitha is accused of defrauding multiple individuals of crores of rupees by falsely promising employment in various central government institutions. She was arrested on Thursday evening by a special investigation team led by DYSP Kasaragod from her lawyer's office in Vidyanagar, where she had arrived to surrender before the Kasaragod 1st Class Judicial Magistrate's Court after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Principal Sessions Court.

The accused, accompanied by her young child, was taken into custody by a team that included female police officers. She was subsequently brought to Vidyanagar police station, where the special investigation team questioned her extensively.

Over a dozen cases of alleged money laundering and fraud are registered against Sachitha in police stations across Kumbala, Badiaduka, Melparam, Adur, Manjeswaram and in Karnataka’s Uppinangadi. According to police sources, amounts ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 15 lakh were collected from unsuspecting victims. Sachitha reportedly leveraged her position as a former DYFI leader to build credibility and gain the trust of her targets.

Sachitha, who stepped back from DYFI activities after her marriage and subsequent move to Kozhikode, retained her party membership despite reduced involvement. However, following allegations of fraud, she was expelled from the CPI(M).

Investigators have revealed that Sachitha collaborated with a recruiter, identified as Chandrasekhara Kuntar, who operates a placement agency in Udupi. Through this association, she allegedly amassed close to Rs 3 crore, as evidenced by transactions linked to her bank account. The positions were falsely advertised in reputed institutions, including CPCRI, Kendriya Vidyalaya, SBI and Karnataka’s Excise and Forest Departments.

Despite the mounting complaints and police efforts, Sachitha had evaded capture until now. The arrest was made possible after the Kasaragod police formed a special team, intensifying the manhunt under the direction of DYSP Kasaragod.
