PALAKKAD: Former area committee member Abdul Shukur, who announced that he had left the CPM as he could not bear the threats and insults from the district secretary, came to attend the LDF convention. Shukur came to the convention site along with CPM state committee member NN Krishnadas. Meanwhile, NN Krishnadas, who came with Shukur, had a row with the media again.
Krishnadas said the media stood before Shukur's house like dogs guarding a meat shop. Krishnadas said that he will go wherever he likes in Palakkad. Meanwhile, Shukur, who came to the stage with his head bowed, did not respond to the media. Abdul Shukur had earlier responded by breaking down in tears, saying that personal enmity was behind the incidents. After resigning, Shukur had responded that there is severe factionalism in the CPM in Palakkad.
In his resignation statement, Shukur described himself as a sincere worker who tolerated repeated provocation and degradation within the party. He expressed particular frustration with the district secretary, who he claims has consistently targeted him with baseless blame.
One flashpoint was the recent accusation from the district leadership regarding election campaign preparations, specifically around the alleged failure to set up boards and graffiti supporting CPM candidate P Sarin. Shukur defended his stance, stating that these tasks fell under the purview of booth secretaries, yet he was publicly singled out and shamed at a meeting of over forty people.
“Four days before the meeting, the district secretary threatened me, and this behavior was repeated in front of others,” Shukur revealed. “How can one continue in such an environment?”
Shukur’s decision to part ways with the CPM was deliberate, adding that he has yet to consider alternative political alignments. His departure highlights ongoing concerns about factionalism and sectarianism within the Palakkad district party structure, which he claims undermines genuine party workers.
