CHELAKKARA: Actor and Member of Parliament Suresh Gopi has demanded a CBI investigation into the recent incidents surrounding Pooram celebrations, claiming that the current investigation is inadequate and tainted by political motives. Speaking at an election convention in Chelakkara, he clarified that he had visited the scene not in an ambulance, as BJP State President K. Surendran had suggested, but in the car of the BJP district president.
Suresh Gopi criticized the actions of the police, accusing them of targeting festival enthusiasts, stating, "I went there to ask why Pooram lovers were beaten up." He expressed doubt over the impartiality of the ongoing investigation by the local police, asserting that only a CBI probe could uncover the truth and prevent potential cover-ups.
Calling the current investigation a farce aimed at serving political interests in the context of the by-election, he warned that mishandling the situation could have significant repercussions for the CPM. Suresh Gopi also referenced past incidents, mentioning the violence associated with "blood-flag-wielding politics," specifically pointing to the death of Naveen Babu.
Shifting focus briefly to national issues, he questioned the silence around Manipur, alleging that the attention had shifted away since the third Modi government took office. Reflecting on his commitment to the arts, he remarked, "Cinema is my blood, flesh, marrow and juice," while emphasizing his family's detachment from corrupt politics.
