Explosion at fireworks storage in Nileshwaram; three persons including temple committee office bearers arrested

NILESHWARAM: Eight people, including temple committee office bearers, were booked by Nileshwaram police over the incident where an explosion occurred after a fire broke out in the fireworks storage area during the Kaliyattam Mahotsavam at Anjootambalam Veererkavu Bhagavathy Temple in Nileshwaram. Police have recorded the arrest of three people. The arrested persons are temple committee president Bharathan, secretary Chandrashekharan and Rajesh, who lit the fireworks.

A total of 154 persons, including women and children, were injured in the explosion. The condition of 8 people is serious. The injured persons are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasargod and Mangaluru. The accident took place at around 11.55 pm yesterday.
