KOCHI: Shruthi, of Wayanad after a series of heartbreaking personal tragedies, was moved to tears as she received an unexpected gift from Malayalam superstar Mammootty at the 'Truth Mangalyam' community wedding held on Sunday at the Azeezia Convention Center.
Shruthi was meant to accept the 'thali' from her fiancé, Jenson and embark on a new chapter in her life. Tragically, Jenson had recently lost his life in a car accident, and Shruthi herself had sustained severe injuries. Mammootty, suggested to the event organizers that Shruthi still be invited to the ceremony.
In a touching moment, Mammootty embraced Shruthi with fatherly affection and handed her an envelope, symbolizing his love and support. “This is just a piece of paper. There is no cheque inside—it’s a symbol. A symbol of love,” Mammootty remarked as Shruthi, smiling bravely, leaned on her crutches. The audience broke into applause.
The envelope contained the full amount initially reserved for Shruthi and Jenson's wedding expenses, a gesture of support for Shruthi as she rebuilds her life. Along with Mammootty’s gift, Shruthi was also given the same financial support as the other couples participating in the community wedding.
Organized by Samad, Chairman of the Qatar-based Truth Group and Editorial Online, 'Truth Mangalyam' brought together 40 differently-abled young women, providing a platform for them to marry. Samad, a close friend of Mammootty and a native of Kunnamkulam, was motivated to organize this community wedding due to personal experiences; he struggled to arrange the marriage of his sister, who is speech-impaired. Over the years, Samad has worked closely with Mammootty.
