Doctors of Kannur district hospital save woman after fish bait injures eyelids

KANNUR: The doctors of Kannur district hospital saved a woman after a fish bait pierced her eyelid. The incident happened when Jisha of Peravoor Mundapakkal, was collecting firewood from the shed. The fish bait was hung in the shed.


She was immediately rushed to the hospitals in Iritty and Peravoor, but the bait could not be taken out. Due to severe pain, she sought treatment at the eye department of the Kannur district hospital, but it was a challenge for the doctors to extract the sharp end of the bait. They then sought the help of the dental department.


With the help of a machine called air rotor hand piece, the tip of the bait was cut without any difficulty for the patient and the bait was completely removed. The Oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr Deepak T S of Kannur District Hospital dental department, Dental Surgeon Dr Sanjith George, Ophthalmologist Dr Jaycee Thomas, Dr Milna Narayanan, Sr Dental Hygienist Ajaya Kumar Karivellur and Lakshmi Krishna led the procedure.
