Kamal Haasan to turn 70 on Nov 7, likely to celebrate birthday in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ulaganayakan Kamal Haasan is turning 70 on the 7th of this month. He is likely to be in Thiruvananthapuram on his birthday. He has been invited to the Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop of the Heritage Foundation. Incidentally, Kamal Haasan is also a mentor of the foundation.

Kamal Haasan made his acting debut at age six in 1960 with 'Kalathur Kannamma', alongside Gemini Ganesan and Savitri, and won the National Award for Best Child Artist. Within the next three years, he went on to act in five films, including the Malayalam movie 'Kannum Karalum'.

After 1963, Kamal took a break to focus on his studies. He returned to cinema in 1970 after learning various technical aspects of filmmaking. His breakthrough role came in 1973 with K Balachander's 'Arangetram'. The same year, he debuted as a lead actor in Malayalam with 'Kanyakumari', paving the way for his superstardom. He delivered hits in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. In 1981, he ventured into Bollywood with 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'.

Kamal Haasan wrote the script for superhit films like Raja Paarvai, Apoorva Sahodarangal, Michael Madana Kamarajan, Thevar Magan, Mahanadhi, Hey Ram, Alavandhan, Anbe Sivam, Nala Damayanti, Virumaandi, Dasavathaaram, and Manmadhan Ambu. He founded Rajkamal International, a production company, and directed five films, including Hey Ram and Vishwaroopam. He also penned lyrics for some films and sang over 70 songs. Additionally, he has exceptional skills in dance.

To Rajya Sabha
Kamal Haasan is expected to join the Rajya Sabha next year. His party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, had joined the DMK alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, and as per the understanding, Kamal Haasan may be given a Rajya Sabha seat that will become vacant next year.
