NAGERCOIL: A woman imposter in a police uniform was arrested by police in Nagercoil. Abhipriya (34), a resident of Theni Periyakulam, was taken into custody. Abhipriya was arrested by Vadasery police following the complaint of Venkatesh, a native of Parvathipuram.
After meeting Venkatesh near Nagercoil Women’s College, Abhipriya went to Venkatesh’s wife’s beauty parlour and did a facial. She then went away promising to pay the money later. Venkatesh felt suspicious of Abhipriya’s police credentials as she had earlier told him about her links with the Chennai crime branch. Venkatesh filed a complaint with police and soon Abhipriya was nabbed. Abhipriya confessed to the crime during interrogation. The police believe that Abhipriya might have committed many such crimes as an imposter.
Abhipriya had married a 66-year-old man named Murugan 13 years ago. The couple decided to split after six years of marriage. Soon, Abhipriya started work as a salesgirl in a textile shop. Here, she met another person named Prithviraj and became close. Three months ago, while travelling by train from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram to attend a friend's wedding, Abhipriya confessed her love to Prithviraj.
However, the young man said that his parents would not allow him to marry anyone other than a police officer. This paved the way for the duo to dupe the parents by renting a police uniform and taking photos of Abhipriya. It is said that Abhipriya roamed all around Chennai and Tirunelveli wearing the uniform. Police will investigate the case after taking the phone records of Abhipriya.
