KOCHI: An accident took place at Fort Kochi in Ernakulam when water metro boats collided with each other. The boat which left Fort Kochi jetty collided with the boat coming from the High Court side. The boat, which was coming from Fort Kochi, had travelled 50 metres when the accident took place.

The incident took place at 12.30 pm today. When the boat from Fort Kochi was going in reverse, it collided with the boat coming from the High Court side. No one was injured in the accident. The alarm sounded and the door of one of the boats opened causing panic among the passengers. Both metro boats resumed service after the accident.

Commuters complained that there was a leakage in the metro boat and that the authorities handled the accident in a light-hearted manner. "The authorities told us to lodge a complaint first and then they will take action," the passengers said.

The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has announced a probe into the incident. KMRL clarified that it was not a major accident but just a minor scratch. The accident took place while giving way for the RORO service. KMRL said an internal inquiry will be conducted into the incident and an official press release will be issued. Officials added that the door will automatically open when the alarm is sounded.
