VARKALA: A youngster bathing with friends in the Papanasam Enikkal beach went missing on Sunday. One teen was rescued by tourists and brought to shore. The accident happened around noon on Sunday. Nelson Jaswant (28), a native of Karnataka, and Khasi Noman (23), a native of Uttar Pradesh, got caught in the high waves while bathing along with friends.

Khasi Noman was rescued by local Tamil tourists. Varkala Fire Force and Police tried to bring the young man to the top through the narrow steps between Papanasham Beach and Aaliyirakkam Beach. He was taken to Sivagiri Srinarayana Medical Mission Hospital and his health condition is now stable. However, the search for Nelson Jaswant yielded no results.

Both are employees of an IT company in Bangalore. They arrived in Varkala on Sunday with their female friends and stayed in a homestay. Tourists are prohibited from entering this part of the sea due to strong currents.
