WASHINGTON: The American presidential election is only hours away. The big ballot to elect the 47th president of America will take place on Tuesday. Vice President and Democratic Senator Kamala Harris is in a fierce battle with Former President and Republican Senator Donald Trump. It has now reached a situation where the new president of America is anybody’s guess.
Asians and blacks support Kamala, elevating the spirits of the Democrats. However, the white sections are steadfast in their support for Trump and hope that the inimitable business magnate returns to the White House. Surveys predict a wafer-thin margin between the two candidates, so even a slight fluctuation will be decisive.
Seven swing states are also critical at the domestic level. Opinion polls say that Trump has an advantage. North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin Michigan and Pennsylvania fall in the swing states. The Republican and Democrat votes are nearly equal in these states. There are 93 Electoral College votes from these states. 270 Electoral College votes are required for the candidate to win the presidential elections.
Trump managed to win only North Carolina in the 2020 election. Biden received a thumping majority only in Michigan and Pennsylvania. In Arizona and Georgia, Biden’s majority was less than 12,000. Arizona shares a border with Mexico and the recent influx of migrants has been a hotly contested topic in the American political arena. The survey results show that Trump has an advantage in this state.
US stance on the Gaza-Israel conflict will reflect in Michigan, which has a large Arab population.
