PALAKKAD: It is late-night drama in poll-bound Palakkad. At 12 am on Wednesday, the election special force of police barged into the hotel where congress leaders were staying. Police conducted a lightning raid into the rooms of congress leaders after getting a tip-off about illegal money reaching the hotel for the election works. The police action is based on a complaint against UDF candidate Rahul Mamkootathil.
Meanwhile, the situation is getting tense after congress workers vehemently opposed the police action. Prominent leaders like Bindu Krishna accused police of barging into her room and rummaging her clothes. Meanwhile, MLA Shanimol Osman opposed police from entering her room. This led to a chaos-like situation.
It is learned that police have also searched the rooms of CPM leaders and BJP leaders in the same hotel. BJP and CPM leaders locked horns with congress workers and demanded police search every room. BJP leaders also alleged dubious money transfers spearheaded by congress workers in the hotel. It is alleged that the money was brought in a trolley bag.
In the meanwhile, MP Shafi Parambil reached the spot and asked police to conduct a thorough search. He also alleged CPM game plan in this late-night raid and alleged misbehaviour by police in forcedly entering the rooms of woman leaders of Congress.
Congress candidate Rahul Mamkootathil is purportedly on his way towards Kozhikode and is not in the hotel. Congress leaders said they would not allow police to leave the premises without handing over a signed statement of not finding anything in the late-night raid.
