Three and half-year-old girl sexually assaulted in Kollam; father's brother arrested

KOLLAM: It has been alleged that a three-and-a-half-year-old girl was sexually assaulted several times by her close relative. The incident took place in Kollam. The girl was allegedly subjected to sexual assault multiple times in six months. Police have arrested the brother of the child's father in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the accused first sexually assaulted the child six months ago when her parents were not at home. Although the child exhibited physical discomfort after this, the parents didn't take it seriously. Police allege that the accused repeatedly abused the child on multiple occasions. Recently, the parents contacted an ASHA worker after the child showed some physical discomfort. The sexual assault came to light when the ASHA worker spoke to the child. Following this, the information was passed to the ward member and Childline workers.

Following counselling by Childline workers, the child disclosed that she had been subjected to sexual assault by her paternal uncle for six months. The police subsequently arrested the accused from Kulathuppuzha. The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. The accused will be produced in court today. The child was given emergency medical care.
