Actor Mohanlal will not lead the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). He has informed that he will no longer be an office bearer of AMMA. It is reported that his family and friends have asked him not to hold any posts. The general body of AMMA will most probably be in June. Former vice president Jayan Cherthala had earlier said that the old governing body would come. Suresh Gopi had also given such a hint. After this, Mohanlal clarified his decision.
After the release of the Hema Committee report, there was mass resignation in 'AMMA'. Mohanlal had said that the incidents following the release of the Hema Committee report were an opportunity for everyone to speak openly and that it was not right to crucify the actors' organization AMMA. If there is proper evidence, the perpetrators should be punished. Let this be a big movement from Kerala. Mohanlal also told the media that the Malayalam film industry, which employs thousands of people, should not be ruined through controversies.
Meantime, more than two months after the resignation of the governing body, the election remains uncertain. A main official told a media that the by-law stipulates that the ad hoc committee can continue till June. He also clarified that the general body was not called in haste because there is time till then.
The entire governing body resigned on August 27 after sexual allegations were raised against the office-bearers including general secretary Siddique. At the time of resignation, it was announced that the general body would be convened to elect a new governing body within two months.
