KOCHI: A project that will give a new boost to the tourism field in Idukki will be launched this coming Monday. For the first time in history, a seaplane will land in Idukki. The seaplane will land on Mattuppetty Lake in Munnar on November 11. A team led by minister Roshy Augustine will receive the seaplane. MLAs A Raja and MM Mani will also attend the event. Minister PA Mohammed Riyas will flag off the test flight of the seaplane to Mattupetty Lake at 9:30 am at Bolgatty Palace in Kochi.

Seaplanes can land and take off from both water and land. Authorities believe that the seaplanes will attract foreign tourists to Idukki, offering direct flights from Kochi and Kozhikode. These amphibian planes have large windows, providing breathtaking views for tourists. The state government is considering a proposal to develop a Seaplane Tourism Circuit, connecting various prominent water bodies and airports across the state.
