Six people injured as lightning strikes them in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: Six women were injured after lightning struck them in Kayanna in Kozhikode on Friday evening. All the injured women are employment guarantee scheme workers. The accident occurred at Nambrathummal in Kayanna 12th Ward at around 6 pm.

The women were working on a plantation when they were struck by lightning. According to sources, none of their injuries are serious. They are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals. It was the locals who rushed the unconscious women to various hospitals.

Although there was no heavy rainfall, the region experienced intense lightning on Friday evening. The injured were rushed to Perambra Taluk Hospital and Cooperative Hospital for treatment. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning, cautioning people to remain vigilant as strong lightning is expected to accompany rainfall in the state.
