Man faces inhumane torture while visiting girlfriend in Thenmala, four arrested

KULATHUPUZHA: Police arrested a gang following a complaint that they forcedly stripped a youngster naked and tied him up in a post after beating him badly. Edamon native Nishad (42) suffered grave injuries in the attack.

The attack took place when Nishad reached Anoor, Thenmala to visit his girlfriend. Sujith, Mota Sajeev, Sibin and Arun, all natives of Edamon, were arrested in the incident. A search has been intensified for the fifth suspect.

The incident happened last Thursday around 11 pm. Sujith and his gang reached the premises by night and saw Nishad trying to run away from the house of his girlfriend. He was caught and brought in front of the house and was ruthlessly manhandled. The torture went beyond limits after the gang tied Nishad to an electric pole after stripping him naked. The beatings also continued with weapons. One from the gang filmed the whole incident on his mobile phone.

Nishad sustained fractures on his hands and legs. The gang even tried to hack the man with a machete but a quick reflex to turn his head saved Nishad from death. Hearing the commotion, the locals reached the spot but the gang were unperturbed and continued with the torture.

The girlfriend's family alerted the police and by the time they arrived, the accused had fled in two auto-rickshaws. Nishad was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at the Punalur Taluk Hospital. The CCTV visuals were carefully monitored and the gang were caught from Edamon Satram JN.

It is suspected that Sujith had previous enmity with Nishad which led to that attack. Police said the gang members are history sheeters and are involved in several criminal cases. The accused were produced before the Punalur First Class Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded.

"The gang have been behind me for more than one week. Even on the day of the incident, they tried to attack me several times but I somehow escaped" said Nishad.
