KALPETTA: With Munambam issue still remaining a potboiler in Kerala, the Waqf board on Monday issued notice to five families in Wayanad. It is alleged that 4.7 acres out of 5.77 acres of waqf property has been encroached.

The notice says that action will be taken under the Waqf Act to reclaim the land. The letter came from the Thalappuzha Hayathul Juma Masjid, which belongs to the Waqf Board. The General Secretary of the Jumath Committee, Anwar and the office bearers, filed a complaint with the Waqf Board on October 10. The notice was sent to Thavinhal residents Pushpavali, Puthur K Mohanan, Jamal, Variyam Parambil Kadeeja, Kunamkadan, and C V Hamsa Faizi.

They are suggested to produce the documents related to the place within 16th of this month. They are also instructed to appear on the 19th of this month. Meanwhile, all five families submitted a petition to Minister O. R. Kelu requesting the government to intervene urgently. In the petition, the families said the land was purchased and registered in 1976 when the land title was given by the government.

Meanwhile, BJP leader P K Krishnadas said that the party would organize state-wide protests against the atrocities of the Waqf board.
